Both Siena Men's Golf and Siena Women's Golf showed stroke improvements during day two of the 2021 MAAC Men's & Women's Golf Championship at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. After 36 holes, the men are in a tie for fifth place, while the women still stand in seventh place.
Through two rounds of the 38
th conference championship event, Fairfield shot +6 on the day to pull ahead of Iona by three strokes (+2, 578), while Quinnipiac (+24, 600) holds a 14-stroke lead on the women's end. Rider's Austin Devereaux (-4, 140) holds a two-stroke individual lead on the men's side, while Hartford's Maria Loza (E, 144) leads by three strokes for the women.
The Siena men shot +6, 294 on the day to show a two-stroke improvement from round one and tie Monmouth for fifth place overall at +14, 590. The women improved 10 strokes and carded +33, 321 in round two to remain in seventh at +76, 652 on the weekend, 21 strokes behind sixth place Monmouth and 14 strokes ahead of seventh place Niagara.
Competing in his first MAAC Championship while donning the Green and Gold, junior
Brody Yates continues to lead the men and be competitive in the field, going Even, 72 with four birdies on the day to finish in a tie for third individually at -1, 143, just three strokes off the lead. Senior
Jack Brown jumped 13 spots in day two action, shooting -2, 70 with four birdies to improve seven strokes and land in a tie for 13
th at +3, 147.
Freshman
Jack Hamilton sits in a split for 21
st individually (+5, 149) after shooting +3, 75 the second time around with one birdie, while sophomore
Nolan Crowley is tied for 27
th (+7, 151) and carded +5, 77 on the day with a pair of birdies. Sophomore
Jack Tobin rounds out the Saints' five-man competition squad in a knot for 33
rd individually (+11, 155) after shooting +6, 78 on the day.
The Siena women also boast a golfer in competition for the top spot after two rounds of play, with senior
Grace Cuttone holding sole possession of fourth place individually (+4, 148) with back-to-back rounds of +2, 74 under her belt to put her four strokes off the lead. Sophomore
Emily Nash is currently tied for 12
th individually in her first MAAC Championship outing (+10, 154) showing a two-stroke improvement at +4, 76 with three birdies.
Sophomore
Isabella Diaz also improved in day two, showing a six-stroke improvement to move up three spots to 35
th (+26, 170). Junior
Lena Kaufman (+36, 180) shot two strokes better to move up one spot into 40
th, while sophomore
Ashlee Sample (+45, 189), remains in 44
th place after shooting one stroke better on day two.
Siena will look to complete the weekend on a high note in round three of the 2021 MAAC Men's & Women's Golf Championships on Sunday, April 25, with action beginning at 7:30 AM.
