Siena Baseball snapped a six-game losing streak with a 10-6 seven-inning victory at Quinnipiac in a series-opening doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Bobcats took the nightcap 11-1 in eight innings.
Game 1: Siena 10, Quinnipiac 6 (7)
Each team scored six runs apiece in the final inning in a wild finish to the seven-inning opener. All nine Siena (4-10) starters recorded hits as part of a 15-hit barrage, while seven scored and seven more drove in runs in a balanced attack.
The Saints built a 4-0 lead through six before tacking on what would prove to be six key insurance runs in their final at-bat in the seventh.
Evan St. Claire delivered a two-run single, and then completed the back-end of a thrilling double steal in which
Bryce Porter stole home. St. Claire then stole third and scored on a wild pitch to cap a productive inning.
Quinnipiac (3-13) battled back with sixth in the seventh, but fell short of the comeback as
Arlo Marynczak came on to get the final two outs to shut the door.
Connor Bovair started strong and went 6.1 innings with five strikeouts to register his first collegiate win.
Ryan McGee paced Siena offensively with three hits, while
Jake Hall and
Donovan Montgomery each homered while also scoring three runs apiece.
Game 2: Quinnipiac 11, Siena 1 (8)
The Bobcats erupted for 10 runs over the first three innings before walking off via mercy rule in the eighth. Quinnipiac pounded out 15 hits, as Andre Marrero tallied four including a homer, while Ian Ostberg also went deep as part of his three hits while driving in four.
The Saints scored their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Carson Dunkel, who led the way with two of the four hits.
James Flood went three scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.
Kevin Seitter struck out 11 while scattering just three hits over seven innings to record the win for the Bobcats.
The teams conclude the series with the decisive doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
