LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Soccer has swept the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's first weekly awards for the 2021 season. Junior midfielder Katrina Kurtz has been proclaimed the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, and red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Boermeester was unanimously heralded as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, after the duo led the reigning MAAC Champions to a season-opening 2-0 win over Binghamton Thursday.
 
Kurtz factored in the scoring for both goals in the victory over the Bearcats, tallying three points by scoring the game-winning goal while adding an assist. The Katonah, New York native scored the first goal of the season and decisive tally in the 22^nd minute on a spectacular 40-yard rocket. Kurtz then provided the Saints with insurance in the 72^nd minute, serving in a long free kick into the box which was headed in to cement Siena's season-opening victory over a strong Binghamton squad which went 6-2 this spring while advancing to the America East Championship Match.
 
Boermeester pitched a shutout, making a career-high eight saves to earn an impressive clean sheet against the Bearcats. Making just her third collegiate appearance, the Dracut, Massachusetts product continued her career-opening shutout streak with her third straight clean sheet. Boermeester's performance was the difference in a match where Binghamton held decided advantages in both shots (16-10) and corners (8-2).
 
Kurtz, Boermeester, and the Saints return to action later today for their first road match of the season, kicking off at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross.
