LOUDONVILLE, NY - Reigning MAAC Champion Siena Women's Soccer looks to continue its strong start to the fall season when the Saints host Vermont in rescheduled matchup Friday at 2 p.m. at Siena Field. Originally slated to be contested Thursday, the match was moved back a day due to the high heat index in the Capital Region.
Siena (2-0) is in search of its second straight 3-0 start, and just the program's fourth in 42 seasons (2008, 2010, 2020-21). The Saints won the MAAC Championship each of the previous two times they opened a season 3-0 or better.
Siena returns to action following a 2-1 victory at Holy Cross Monday.
Ashleigh Sarafin and
Rebecca Rolland each scored first half goals for the Saints, while

Siena and Vermont meet for the 17th time in what has become an edge-of-your-seat series featuring the Saints holding a 9-5-2 all-time advantage. The programs met for 15 straight seasons in non-conference action from 2004-18, with the Saints posting an 11-match unbeaten streak (9-0-2) from 2007-17 which the Catamounts finally snapped by prevailing 1-0 in the most recent matchup in 2018 in Burlington. The cardiac Saints scored either the game-tying or game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation or in overtime in four of their final five contests to conclude their 11-match unbeaten streak.
Vermont won its season-opener 4-3 over Merrimack on Sunday in Burlington. Jill Brody scored twice for the Catamounts in a barn burner which featured 40 combined shots and 19 corner kicks, and tallied the game-winner with just 65 seconds remaining in regulation. UVM, which posted a 1-4-1 record during the abbreviated spring season, was predicted to finish seventh out of 10 teams according to the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. Of Siena's eight non-conference matches, five are scheduled vs. America East foes. The Saints defeated Binghamton 2-0 in their season-opener last Thursday.
