LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Soccer battles new MAAC member Mount St. Mary's for the first time ever when the Saints host The Mount on Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hickey Field. Just prior to kickoff, Siena will honor its five seniors –
Lexi Bartlow,
Brooke Boermeester,
Danielle Borrino,
Katrina Kurtz, and
Caitlin Wania – in a special pregame ceremony.
Siena (1-8-5, 0-3-3) will look to send out its five-member Class of 2023 victorious in their penultimate regular season home match. The Saints wrap up their regular season home slate Wednesday vs. Saint Peter's. Siena's Senior Class has been a part of a pair of MAAC Tournament appearances to date, highlighted by the program's third and most recent MAAC Championship during the 2020-21 COVID season when the quintet was in the spring semester of their sophomore year.
The Saints are looking to bounce back after their three-match unbeaten streak was halted with Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Niagara, and make a move in their bid for a MAAC Tournament berth. Entering Saturday's slate, Siena finds themselves with three points in league action – courtesy of a trio of draws – with just four matches remaining. However, the Saints are just three points (one win) out of the sixth and final MAAC Tournament spot, which is currently occupied by a trio of teams including Mount St. Mary's (2-4-7, 1-3-3).
Overall, the Mount has tied more than half (seven) of their 13 matches to date this season, including a 1-1 draw on Wednesday vs. Manhattan. While Siena has four contests remaining, the Mountaineers have just three as they look to secure a MAAC Tournament berth in their first season of league competition. Predicted to finish ninth according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Mount St. Mary's posted a 5-13 overall record including a 3-7 mark in their final season in the NEC, and have only qualified for their conference tournament once (2018) since 1997.
