Men’s Lacrosse Welcomes 2023 Newcomers

Saints Add 16 to Program

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Lacrosse team and head coach Liam Gleason has announced the addition of 16 newcomers to the roster for the upcoming 2023 season. The Saints welcome in 13 true freshman and three transfers among the complete 47-man roster.
 
"Our coaching staff is very excited to welcome this class of 16 to the Siena lacrosse family," said Gleason. "It is a great group of student-athletes that have excelled on and off the lacrosse field, and us coaches have had fun integrating them into our program. This class has already made their presence felt, and we are looking forward to the spring season."
 
A native of Scarsdale, New York, Gavin Blenk comes from Iona Prep where he played lacrosse for three years. Prior to his time at Iona Prep, he starred at New Rochelle High School in lacrosse and swimming. His sister, Carolyn, swims at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
 
Coming from the Green Mountain state representing Manchester, Vermont, Liam Bradley comes with a full lacrosse resume. A product of Burr and Burton Academy, Bradley was named Second Team All-State his senior year, and First Team All-League while earning similar accolades as a junior. He also had a standout career in football and wrestling.
 
Vito DeBellis is the lone goaltender of the group, coming to Siena as a freshman from Yorktown Heights, New York. He graduated from Yorktown High School where he recorded letters in both lacrosse and football. He was an Academic All-American in lacrosse, also earning All-State and All-Section honors. In addition, he earned Yorktown's Most Outstanding Male Athlete and earned the prestigious Rob Kavovit 15ForLife Stick Award.
 
The lone international add to the class, Xander Derkatz matriculates from Windsor, Ontario. A product of F.J. Brennan Catholic High School, Derkatz has played lacrosse for 17 years and was an honor roll student his junior and senior years.
 
The first of three transfers, Will Edell makes his way from Castle Pines, Colorado through Detroit Mercy. While with the Titans for two years, Edell recorded 16 goals and eight assists in 18 total games with 13 starts. He also grabbed 31 ground balls and four caused turnovers as an attackman. He was twice named to the Detroit Mercy Director's Honor Roll, and was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2021 – twice earning MAAC Rookie of the Week honors. He joins his cousin – Matt Edell – on the Saints roster.
 
A product of Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, Maximo Fenn comes to Siena as a two-year letter winner and former wrestler. The lone faceoff addition of the class, Fenn hails from Cambridge. He earned Team MVP honors, winning 79 percent of his faceoffs while at Catholic his senior year. He also recorded two games with a perfect 100 percent faceoff win percentage.
 
A native of Akron, New York, Travis Fry starred in multiple sports while at Akron Central High School. He was a four-year varsity letterwinner, two-year letter winner in football, five-year letter winner in wrestling, and one-year letterwinner in both soccer and basketball. In lacrosse, he was a First Team All-State, All-Western NY, All-League, and All-Section VI selection. He was named a US Lacrosse All-American, helping guide Akron Central to a Section VI championship.
 
One of two long stick midfielders in the class, R.J. Ihlefeld hails from Fairfield, Connecticut where he starred at Fairfield Warde followed by a postgrad year at Hotchkiss School. He played both football and lacrosse, earning All-New England honors at Hotchkiss. He also earned All-Conference honors his sophomore and senior year in both sports.
 
The other long stick midfielder of the group, Caden Kramer comes from New Hartford, New York. A standout at New Harford High School, Kramer earned three letters in lacrosse and cross country while getting four in ice hockey. He was a team captain in all three sports, earning Mohawk Valley Male Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2021 and All-Mohawk Valley League honors in both hockey and lacrosse.
 
Matriculating from Natick, Massachusetts, Colby LeBlanc was a standout at Natick High School where he earned USA Lacrosse First Team All-American honors along with BostonLax.net First Team All-American honors two years in a row. He also was named back-to-back league MVP and twice named to the Boston Herald All-Scholastic and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team.
 
A midfielder out of Huntington, New York, Liam Lennon was a four-year starter in both lacrosse and soccer at Huntington High School. He was named All-Division in lacrosse in both 2021 and 2022, also getting it done in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society.
 
Patrick Linton is a midfielder out of Camillus, New York, and starred in lacrosse at West Genesee High School. A varsity athlete for three years, Linton twice earned Under Armour Underclass All-American honors. He helped guide his high school squad to both a Section III championship and regional championship as well. Linton also earned the prestigious Don Litzelman Award among other West Genesee accolades.
 
Coming to Siena from Binghamton, Caden Olmstead played and starred in lacrosse at Chenango Forks High School, earning Section IV All-Star and scholar athlete honors all four year of high school. As a senior, he was named Third Team All-State at attack, while also earing Binghamton Player of the Year honors. In the spring, he scored 107 goals and 43 assists en route to also earning Binghamton Elite Boys Lacrosse All-Star team accolades. During his junior season, Olmstead was named to the Under Armour All-American Underclass Tournament for Team Upstate New York.
 
A native of East Northport, New York, Jack Sandrib comes into Siena as a four-year letterwinner and starter in lacrosse at Northport High School. He captured All-County honors as a senior, also leading his team as a captain to the New York State finals in 2022. He was also a three-year letterwinner and team captain in football at Northport.
 
Coming from Spencerport, New York via SUNY Brockport, Rocco Santillo joins Siena as a graduate transfer. Named the SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, Santillo recorded 43 career goals and 16 assists for 59 total points over four years at Brockport. He appeared in 36 career games, also grabbing 19 ground balls and 36 turnovers. Prior to his four years at Brockport, Santillo was a Division III All-American at Spencerport High School.
 
The third and final fifth year transfer addition to the Saints this season, Zac Schuette comes to Siena via Springfield College. A native of nearby Ballston Spa, Schuette was a standout with the Pride, recording a breakout senior campaign with 52 goals and 39 assists for 91 total points – becoming one of only four players in program history to break the 90-point plateau. In addition to his success on the field as a NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selection and All-ECAC Honorable Mention, Schuette was named USILA Scholar All-American, one of two honorees from Springfield.
 
The Siena Saints men's lacrosse team is coming off a season that consisted of a playoff run to the MAAC Semifinals, where they fell just short of a trip to the MAAC Championship game. The Green and Gold posted a 6-9 overall record including a 3-3 mark in the MAAC, which was highlighted by a victory over regular season champion St. Bonaventure. A total of five Saints earned All-MAAC honors, highlighted by MAAC Rookie of the Year selection Pratt Reynolds.
