Siena and UAlbany were the two schools most synonymous with the life of the late lacrosse head coach Liam Gleason, who left behind two well-defined legacies within both the Purple and the Gold as well as the Green and Gold programs.
Coach Gleason's tragic passing in December after just turning 41 years old and organ donation spurred the Capital District lacrosse community into action to create the Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, the Coach Liam Gleason Memorial Scholarship, a greater action for organ donation and the LarGer-than-Life Game that will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Casey Stadium.
In Liam's final act of generosity, he saved the lives of four people and enhanced the lives of several others through the gift of organ donation.
Two organizations will be focused on those efforts with both Donate for Life and LAX for Life working in collaboration at the game. With more than 100,000 people waiting for lifesaving transplants, Donate for Life strives to educate, inspire and activate the public to say yes to registering their decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. This coincides with April as being National Donate Life Month to focus the national attention on the need and importance of organ donations. Give hope and help save lives by registering your decision to be a donor at your local DMV, on
RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App or through your MyChart portal.
Founded in 2022, Lax for Life is committed to creating life-changing opportunities through active participation and awareness in organ donation. Through lacrosse events, they aim to cultivate a culture of organ donation, where each game played symbolizes hope and renewal. Every dollar raised advances the vital cause of organ donation, offering hope, health and life to those in need at

Earlier in the day on Tuesday, members of the UAlbany and Siena communities will gather for a ceremonial tree-planting ceremony in coach Gleason's honor. Known affectionately as "The Tree" during his playing days for his stature, a tree will be planted between Casey Stadium and Fallon Field in his honor.
The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, established in January 2026 by family members, former coaches and friends close to Liam, will honor its inaugural group of recipients exemplifying leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship and meaningful community involvement.
Each NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Program will select a student athlete from their team to receive the Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Voted on by players, coaches and staff, this honor is awarded to the individual on the roster whose teammates most aspire to emulate. The 77 individual recipients exemplifying Liam's spirit will be named and recognized in May.
The Coach Liam Gleason Memorial Lacrosse Scholarship was established by friends and family to honor the profound impact Liam had as a coach, mentor, and friend to so many players. This scholarship will be awarded to the student athletes on the Siena Men's Lacrosse team who embody the leadership, dedication and team-first spirit that Liam exemplified.
