Former Syracuse All-American Joins Rehfuss on Coaching Staff

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Lacrosse program and head coach Abigail Rehfuss have announced the addition of former Syracuse standout and All-American Kailah Kempney to the coaching staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.

"We're excited to welcome Kailah into our Siena family," said Rehfuss. "She is a proven master on the draw and brings incredible insight and expertise to all of the nuances that lead to success at the center circle. In addition to working closely with our draw unit, Kailah will assist with offensive player development and game day management."

She previously spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado Boulder. She helped guide the Buffs to two successful seasons with an overall record of 29-9, reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2017. The Buffs defeated four of the seven ranked opponents they faced in 2017, which included a win over #6 Penn State. The 16 games they won in 2017 would be a school record, topping their previous record of 13 set in 2016 in her first year on staff

As a senior at Syracuse in 2015, Kempney was named IWLCA Second Team All-America and Second Team All-ACC. She holds the Syracuse career record for draw controls and broke the single-season mark for draw controls three times, finishing with 253 over four seasons.

A winner and leader of one of the nation's top programs, Kempney helped the Orange reach the NCAA semifinals all four years and finish runner-up twice. She also led the Orange to an ACC tournament championship as a senior, and a pair of Big East regular season titles in her first two seasons. Over her four-year playing career, she helped Syracuse to a 74-19 record.

Kempney comes to Siena after serving in the private sector and spending her time as a Program Director and Head Coach of various lacrosse clubs in Texas. Kempney also served a brief stint as an intern at Conference USA.

Kempney, a native of Carthage, N.Y., graduated from Syracuse in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science.
