PROVIDENCE, RI – Siena Water Polo (0-2) commenced the 2022 season with a pair of losses at the Bruno Classic in Providence, Rhode Island Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell in a close 13-11 battle with Saint Francis (PA) before dropping a 15-7 decision to host Brown to end the night.

Saint Francis (PA) 13, Siena 11

The first match of the day remained close throughout, with the Red Flash holding an 8-6 lead at the half and then matching the Saints' five goals in the second half to hold on for the win. The match was tied at 11 with 2:54 remaining thanks to the third of three goals on the day for freshman Emma Nosenchuck, who secured a hat trick in her first collegiate action. Preseason Second Team All-MAAC selection Bianca Prinsloo also added a hat trick, while senior Georgia Vargas scored twice and junior Maggie Verduijn, sophomore Sydney Arnold, and freshman Ashley Chand each found the back of the net once.

Brown 15, Siena 7

The Green and Gold ended the night against the Bears in their home pool. Having received votes in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll entering the weekend, the home team jumped out to a 6-1 lead after a quarter and never looked back. Vargas went for a hat trick with a pair of fourth quarter goals, while junior Grace Boeve added a pair of scores and Chand and classmate Nayeli Cisneros also found the back of the net.

Siena will conclude the weekend at the Bruno Classic on Sunday, February 5, with a test awaiting in MAAC opponent #14 Wagner at 10:30 AM.
