WINTER GARDEN, FL – The hot Florida sun has only made Siena Men's Golf better, it seems. After beginning the Spring 2022 campaign with a solid opening round at the Veterans Intercollegiate in Winter Park, Florida, the Saints bounced back and made history in the second go-around.
Siena shot a team round of -1, 281 at the Orange County National course to set program records for low round and low round under-par. Following 36 holes in their spring opener, the Saints lead the nine-team field by 12 strokes, and will enter the final round in search of a team tournament title for the second straight year. The team's 36-hole score of -2, 574 is also the third-lowest score through two rounds in program history.
A plethora of red and a little yellow lit up the Saints' scorecards Monday, with the team combining to card 13 birdies and two eagles on the Par 72, 7,388-yard course. Junior Nolan Crowley led the way with four birdies in a team-best round of -4, 68 to move the Saratoga Springs, New York native up into a tie for fifth individually.
The Saints ended the day with three of their five-man competition squad inside the top-10, with day one team leader Jack Tobin carding even, 72 with three birdies to land in a split for seventh. Classmate Matthew Ferrari went for three birdies for a round of -2, 70 to finish in ninth place individually.
Senior Brody Yates was one of two Saints to card an eagle on the day, going two strokes under on the par-5 seventeenth hole to finish at -1. 71, in a split for 15th. Freshman Dan Brooks rounded out the team's five-man competition squad with a round of +2, 74 to end the day in a tie for 21st. Competing as an individual. Sophomore Andy Knoll shot an eagle on the par-5 fourteenth hole to card +5, 77 and move into a tie for 34th individually.
Siena will look to close out its first action of the spring with a victory on Tuesday at 8 AM with a shotgun start.
