Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Colgate in 2022 Home Opener

Saints Playing First Game Since Feb. 18, First Home Game of Season

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Lacrosse team returns to Hickey Field for the first time in 2022, as the Green and Gold get set to host a midweek matchup against the Colgate Raiders at 3 p.m.

After starting their season on the road for their first two games, the Saints return to Hickey Field for the first time since their win in the MAAC Semifinals over Monmouth last spring. In last year's home opener, the Saints came out with a 6-5 overtime win over the Canisius Golden Griffins thanks to a game-winning goal from Annie Brennan.

After a win to open their season, the Siena Women's Lacrosse team fell to the Pitt Panthers by a final score of 12-5 in their last game on Feb. 18. Freshman Jordan Bentley scored three times for her second hat trick of the season, while Nicole McNeely also finished with three points putting in a goal and two assists. Freshman Meghan Decker also added a goal, while goaltender Ally Mervine made 13 saves in the loss.

Colgate (1-3) is coming off their first win of the season against St. Bonaventure this past Saturday. Cara O'Reilly scored a career-high four goals, while Catie Lang and Devon Maillet each added a hat trick to the total. Both Lang's and Maillet's scoring outputs were season highs. Maillet's goals were the first of her career. Colgate's first goal was scored by Margaret Noble, the first of the sophomore's career. The Bonnies tied the score at 1-1 six minutes later, but then it was all Raiders as they scored seven of the next eight goals.

The Raiders and Saints meet for the sixth time, with Colgate holding the 3-2 advantage over the Saints. However, the Saints won the previous matchup in Hamilton back in 2019 by a final score of 9-6. The win was the first win of a memorable 2019 season.
