LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Siena Men's Golf carved out a spot near the top of the leaderboard to begin action at the 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Golf Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida Friday. Through 18 holes of action, the Siena men are seven strokes off the lead in second place, while the women are tied for eighth.
Iona shot -1, 287 to lead the nine-team men's field, while the Saints carded +6, 294 to land two strokes ahead of Fairfield and Rider. UAlbany shot +7, 295 to lead the nine-team women's field, while the Saints carded +51, 339 to tie La Salle for Eighth.
Siena Men's Golf boasts a pair of top-ten individual finishers following round one at the par-72, 6,689-yard course, with freshman
Dan Brooks and junior
Nolan Crowley each shooting +1, 73 to tie for sixth. Brooks birdies twice in his first collegiate postseason round, while Crowley laid down four birdies.
Juniors
Matthew Ferrari and
Jack Tobin carded +3, 74 to come in right behind their teammates at +2, 74, with both birdying the par-5 tenth hole. Senior and 2021 All-MAAC finisher
Brody Yates shot +10, 82 with two birdies to round out the Saints' five-man competition squad.
Competing in her first MAAC Championship event, freshman
Manoela Barcellos shot +9, 81 to lead the women's team in a tie for 30
th. Classmate
Jillian Barend and sophomore
Margot Osterman each carded +13, 85 to split for 26
th, while senior
Lena Kaufman shot +16, 88 to finish in 40
th place individually. Junior
Emily Nash rounded out the Saints' competition team with a round of +25, 97 to finish 44
th.
Both teams will return to the course for round two of the 2022 MAAC Golf Championships on Saturday, April 23, with tee times beginning at 7:30 AM.
