Siena Basketball Welcomes Michael Eley

Saints Officially Announce Addition of Sixth Incoming Freshman

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Basketball Head Coach Carmen Maciariello has made official the addition of his program's sixth incoming freshman for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Michael Eley, a 6-4, 185-pound shooting guard from Fort Wayne, Indiana, has signed his National Letter of Intent, and will enroll at Siena College this summer.

"Michael is an athletic shooting guard who will impact the game at both ends of the floor for us," said Maciariello. "He's a very good rebounder and a versatile defender, but what I love most about Michael wasn't his scoring, but his unselfishness and the ability to do whatever was needed to help his team win."

Eley matriculates to Siena after spending a postgraduate year at Veritas Prep Academy in Florida, where he averaged 25 points, six rebounds, and four assists this past season. He played three years of varsity high school basketball at R. Nelson Snider, before spending a season at Elevation Prep (2020-21) in his hometown of Fort Wayne.

Eley amassed 1,030 career points in three seasons at Fort Wayne Snider (2017-20), where he averaged 16.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.4 steals over 24.0 minutes in 63 varsity games. He was named both an Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Large School All-State and an IndyStar Indiana Junior All-Star Team selection following his junior season in 2019-20, after leading the Panthers to a 4A Sectional Title while averaging 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 48% from the field including 44% from three-point range. Eley also earned IndyStar Junior All-Star Team Honorable Mention acclaim following his sophomore season.

Eley becomes the sixth official addition – all of whom to date are freshmen – to join the 2022-23 Saints. Siena previously announced the signing of fellow incoming freshman Sveinn Birgisson yesterday, freshmen preferred walk-ons Brendan Coyle and Killian Gribben last week, and freshmen Zekeriya Yigit "Zach" Tekin and preferred walk-on Mason Courtney last month.

Eley joins a Siena Men's Basketball program looking to build off its fourth straight top-three MAAC finish this past season.
