Records Fall for Siena Cross Country at Paul Short Run

Men’s 8k, Women’s 6k School Records Broken Friday

BETHLEHEM, PA – Siena Cross Country witnessed school records broken at the 48th Annual Paul Short Run for the third straight running of the event, which took place Friday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Women's fifth year Olivia Lomascolo broke her own school record in the women's 6k with a time of 20:17.8, while senior Brandon Olden dethroned program great Evans Kibet as the school record holder in the men's 8k with a mark of 23:37.5. Lomascolo showed a 27 second improvement from her time last year to place 40th individually in the Women's College Gold 6k, while Olden ran an impressive 51 seconds faster than his mark in 2021 to go 23 seconds faster than the previous program mark and place 47th individually. Olden now owns five school records in cross country & track, while Lomascolo holds three.

The pair of standout performances allowed the Siena men to finish 28th and the women to place 33rd in the College Gold races against national competition. Runners from both teams also competed in the Open Men's 8k and Men's 6k events, with freshman Tyler Greene (24:53.8) and senior Sophia Vinciguerra (22:44.3) placing 46th and 45th, respectively, to lead the way.

For the men, Olden was followed by classmate Aidan Gillooley, who ran a personal best time of 24:06.2 to finish 106th and soar into third on the program's all-time list. Junior Ben Guerin (24:54.8) improved on his best time by nearly a minute, while senior Tommy Anderson (24:56.1) and junior Killian McNamee (25:01.0) also followed with best times.

The women's race featured a strong performance from senior Delia McDade Clay (21:00.1), who shaved one minute and 17 seconds off her previous best time to claim the second-best 6k time in school history and finish 124th. Senior Elaine Atanasova (21:53.9) took five seconds off of last year's time, while sophomore Julia Caputo (21:56.8) and junior Katharine Hesler (22:04.6) rounded out the top-five.

Siena will have a weekend off before gearing up for its first championship meet of the year. Moved forward on the schedule from previous seasons, the 2022 IC4A/ECAC Cross Country Championships will take place on Friday, October 14 at the famed Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx, New York.
