UTICA, NY – Siena Indoor Track returned to competition for its first action in 2023, sending runners to compete at the Utica Winter Opener at the Hutton Sports & Recreation Center in Utica, New York.
The team saw athletes compete in the 5,000, mile, 800, 1,000, 3,000, and the 4x400 relay. The women placed fifth at the event, while the men took sixth.
Sophomore Luke Tkaczyk (15:03.13) took a win in the men's 5k, while the women's team took each of the top four spots in the mile in the form of senior Elaine Atanasova (5:12.57), sophomore Claire Gardner (5:17.58), senior Sophia Vinciguerra (5:18.45), and sophomore Katharine Hesler (5:19.18).
Sophomore Keira Flaherty recorded a personal best time of 2:24.50 to win the women's 800, while freshman Chloe Poulos (10:37.51) and junior Killian McNamee (8:36.59) each finished second in their respective 3k race. The men's 4x400 relay of junior Griffin Cooke, freshman PJ Dauer, senior Ryan Famiglietti, and McNamee placed seventh with a time of 3:44.16.
Siena will continue January indoor track action at the NYC Gotham Cup in Staten Island, New York on Friday, January 20.
