LOUDONVILLE, NY – For the second time in 2023, the Siena men's and women's tennis teams swept the MAAC Tennis Player of the Week awards.
In the men's competition, graduate student
Tomas del Olmo earned the team's third weekly MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week award in the previous four weeks after securing a pair of victories last weekend.
On the women's side,
Meagan Brown asserted herself with a dominant week by winning five of six matches from the #1 singles position and the #1 doubles spot.
Del Olmo, who hails from St. Johns, Virgin Islands, won both matches in this past Friday's 7-0 victory against Lafayette by teaming with
Jose Pablo Davila to win the #3 doubles match 6-3 over Brady Wisdom and Nash Lovallo and then followed up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Jake Magnusson from the singles #2 position.
Del Olmo joins teammates
Dante Russo (week ending January 31) and
Edward Vo (week ending February 7) as winners of the conference weekly award in 2023.
Brown
, a fifth-year student-athlete, started hot against Lafayette at Sportime Schenectady and continued her romp on the road at Bryant and at Providence. On Friday, Brown teamed with
Alexa Wilson to top Alyssa Perdomo and Carmen Merkel 7-5 from the doubles #1 position. From the singles #1 spot, Brown topped Olivia Boeckman 6-1, 6-1.
On Saturday, Brown once again partnered with Wilson to defeat Manuela Gomez Estrada and Camila Baeza 6-3 at the #1 doubles spot. From the singles #1 spot, Brown beat Sarah Hickey 7-6 (4), 6-3. On Sunday, Brown won from the #1 singles spot again by rallying back to beat Katie Mulvey 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Next up, the Siena men's tennis team (4-3) travels to the state of Pennsylvania to take on Bucknell (4-4) this Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. followed by visits to Lehigh (4-4) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Temple (5-2) on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Siena women's tennis team (3-5) will face the same schools from Friday through Sunday, facing Bucknell (5-6), also at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a visit to Lehigh (2-3) at 5 p.m. and then a trip to Temple (5-1) at 4 p.m.
