Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, RI – For the first time since 2007 and only the third time ever, Siena Water Polo emerged triumphant in a season opener. The Saints (1-1) took an explosive 18-6 win over Gannon before falling to host #25 Brown by a score of 14-6 to begin action in the Bruno Classic at the Moran Aquatics Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Saints opened the 22nd season in program history by jetting out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, which ended with back-to-back goals from graduate student Bianca Prinsloo. The Green and Gold held a 9-3 lead at the half, and held the same margin in the second half, with all 11 Saints who appeared scoring at least once.
 Senior Lily Graham led the way with four goals, while Prinsloo tallied a hat trick. Freshmen Parker Thomas, Samantha Varrie, Audrey Lacey, and Finn Magill (2) each recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers.

Prinsloo got the Saints out to a 2-0 lead in the early minutes of the first quarter against their first of 11 schedule teams that are either currently ranked or receiving votes in the latest CWPA Top-25 Poll. Brown responded with four straight goals and never looked back, despite another score from Prinsloo to open the second quarter. Brown held an 8-2 advantage in the second half, with Prinsloo again tallying a hat trick and scores coming from Varrie, senior Sydney Jones, and sophomore Cece White.
Siena will conclude opening weekend action at the Bruno Classic on Saturday, February 4, facing Pomona-Pitzer at 11:20 AM and Santa Clara at 4 PM.
