WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Siena Outdoor Track set its second school record of the weekend to begin the 2023 outdoor track season on Sunday at the Monmouth Spring Opener in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
The women's team of sophomore
Keira Flaherty, sophomore
Claire Gardner, junior
Jennifer McClintock, and freshman
Mattingly O'Rourke ran a time of 4:10.09 to best the previous record set back during indoor track season by six seconds. Â
The Saints entered runners in the men's and women's 800, 1,500, 5,000, and 4x400 relay events.
Gardner won the 1,500 with a time of 4:41.88, while senior
Elaine Atanasova took third with a time of 4:43.00. Freshman
Chloe Poulos went for second in the women's 5,000 with a time of 14:47.31, while classmate
Stephanie Queiroz placed third with a mark of 17:47.56. Sophomore
Julia Caputo (17:48.80) and junior
Katharine Hesler (17:54.90) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. McClintock also placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:19.45.
On the men's side, junior
Tom Ragone finished third in the 1,500 with a time of 3:59,63, while sophomore
Chris Bertola placed fifth with a time of 4:02.78. Junior
Ryan Shanahan took fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 15:03.82, while senior
Ryan Famiglietti finished sixth in the 800 at 1:59.64.
The men's 4x400 team of Famiglietti, junior
Griffin Cooke, Bertola, and senior
Matthew Laframboise won the 4x400 with a time of 3:36.29.
The team's next spring action will come at the Black & Gold Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island on Saturday, April 1.
