OLD BROOKVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Golf began the week leading up to the 2023 MAAC Championships with a bang, firing off a pair of impressive rounds to begin action at the Shark Invitational at Brookville Country Club in Old Brookville, New York.
Through 36 holes of play, the Saints (282-279-561) stand tied with Fairleigh Dickinson for the lead among the nine-team field. The team's second round score was good for the third-lowest round this season and all-time, with the 36-hole score good for the second-lowest in program history.
Freshman
Austin Giroux led the Green and Gold with a career day, carding a second-round score of -5, 65 with eight birdies to record the lowest single round in program history in 17 years and the second-lowest all-time. The Newport, Vermont native sits one stroke off the lead (73-65-138) following the first two rounds of action.
The Saint finished the day with two other golfers inside the individual top-ten, including senior
Matthew Ferrari (69-71-140) and sophomore
Dan Brooks (71-71-142), who ended round two tied for fourth and tied for seventh, respectively.
Graduate student
Brody Yates (69-75-144) also went under 70 in a round to tie for 17
th, while senior
Nolan Crowley (74-72-146) rounded out the five-man competition team in a split for 22
nd. Competing as an individual, senior
Jack Tobin carded rounds of 71 and 74 to finish at 145 in 21
st place.
Siena will look to take home its third team win of the season with the final round of action at the Shark Invitational on Tuesday, April 18.
