Volleyball Welcomes Eight New Additions for 2023 Season

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The 2023 edition of Siena Women's Volleyball will have a fresh-faced look on its roster with eight new additions set to make their debuts this August.

Second-year head coach Simone Asque-Favia has recruited an influx of tall, versatile hitters who can play multiple positions as well as a defensive specialist and two setters to a promising Saints' team that finished with a six-win improvement from the previous season and reached the MAAC Tournament Semifinals.

"I am so proud to introduce these outstanding young women and have them join our Siena Volleyball family," said coach Asque-Favia.

"It was such a privilege to build a connection with them and their families during the recruiting process, and it will be an even greater pleasure to be their head coach in a few short months. Each and every one of them exemplifies what we look for in a Siena Saint, and they are all hungry to grow and improve beyond their current achievements. I envision this recruiting class to build depth and competition into our roster immediately this year, and to aid in the building blocks of a renewed competitive legacy for Siena Volleyball in the years to come. Go Saints!"

Junior Sina Toroslu is one of two incoming transfers of the group from Lee College, where she was a National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-American.  The Stuttgart, Germany native is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, who also competed on her track and field team at the high school level.  Toroslu is a former National Champion in Germany with the U18 state selection volleyball team and also was a member of a team that finished in fifth place in the Cornacchia World Cup that took place in Italy.  The Cornacchia World Cup is widely regarded as the largest and most competitive volleyball tournament in the country since 1983.

The Saints gained another player in this recruiting class with previous college experience in sophomore transfer Ana Zink, who joins Siena after spending a season with Midland Junior College.  Originally from Campinas, Brazil, the 5-foot-11 left-handed setter ranked second on the team in assists with 337 and added 54 digs and 48 total blocks during her freshman campaign.  Zink offers postseason experience as well as she was a key component on the Lady Chaparrals, who finished with a record of 17-11 and reached the NJCAA Region V West Tournament Semifinals against #10 New Mexico Junior College.

There are six freshmen joining the fray including four players who can play either outside hitter/opposite/middle blocker or a variation of all three positions including 5-foot-10 Hannah Bowman from Valrico, FL, 6-foot-2 Kayla Jones from Philadelphia, Pa., 6-foot-1 1/2 Sonja Meyer from Oak Hill, Va. and Ella Treasure, a 6-foot native of Rochester, N.Y.

Among the additions also include 5-foot-4 libero Payton Hinkle from Brownsburg, IN and 5-foot-7 setter Oliwia Majtyka from Dolnoslaskie State, Poland.

Bowman was a member of the National Honors Society and earned the Presidential Award for the 2020-21 season and was a High Honor Roll member throughout her high school years from 2019 to 2023.  In volleyball, Bowman was twice named the "Best Offensive Player" and was an FCC First All-Star Team player.

Hinkle was an Academic All-State member for 2022 and was a two-time Leadership Award winner for the 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 school years at Brownsburg High.  In three seasons, Hinkle totaled 67 aces and 524 digs including 36 aces and 267 digs in her senior season. She also played on the Circle City Volleyball Club.

Jones was a member of the National Honors Society and has completed over 100 hours of community service for the Special Olympics. Jones accumulated 112 aces and 361 kills in her last two seasons in high school and also played club volleyball for East Coast Power.

In Poland, Majtyka earned a high school scholarship for three consecutive years for outstanding academic results and was a finalist in the state math contest, which provided her the privilege of selecting an even more prestigious high school without an entrance exam and with priority.  On the courts, Majtyka earned the title of Polish National Champion for the U19, U17 and U15 teams.  Additionally, she was named "Best Setter" in the state finals stemming from her performance on the U19 team.

Meyer was named to the Headmasters list during the 2021-2022 school year.  In volleyball, she was on the USAV Girls Junior National Championship 18s Open Division team that finished in fifth and the club team that qualified in the open division for USAV Nationals.
