UTICA, NY – Siena Indoor Track returned to competition at the Utica Winter Invite Friday morning for both its first action in 2024 and its first meet under the direction of new head coach
Elizabeth DeBole.
Working off of many bright sports and several event wins, the men took fourth with 68 points, while the women placed fifth with 54 points.
Senior
Ben Guerin won the men's 5,000 with a time of 15:19.16, while graduate student
Madeleine Hesler claimed victory in the women's 800 with a time of 2:19.28 for the fourth-fastest indoor time in the event in program history. Competing in her first-ever collegiate track meet for the Green and Gold after joining the program following four seasons as a midfielder for Siena Women's Soccer, senior
Gabby DeAngelis won the women's 1,000 with a time of 3:05.10.
Hesler struck again with a time of 4:57.41 in the women's mile, leading three straight Siena finishers in the event (
Keira Flaherty,
Katharine Hesler) as the fourth woman in program history to go under a five-minute mile. Sophomore
Tyler Greene turned in third-fastest time in program history in the men's 1,000 (2:28.41) and was immediately followed by junior
Luke Tkaczyk (2:34.33). Junior
Julia Caputo finished second in the women's 3,000 (10:06.58), while fifth year
Tommy Anderson placed second on the men's side (8:30.60).
The women's 4x400 relay team of sophomore
Mattingly O'Rourke, DeAngelis, sophomore
Izzy McNamee, and junior
Keira Flaherty finished second with a time of 4:20.01, while the men's relay group of sophomore
PJ Dauer, Tkaczyk, Greene, and senior
Killian McNamee also did so with a mark of 3:38.81.
Siena will continue winter action at the NYC Gotham Cup in Staten Island, New York on Friday, January 19 beginning at Noon.
