ALBANY, NY – Siena Basketball seeks to reclaim Capital Region bragging rights when the Saints battle crosstown rival UAlbany in the Albany Cup Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Broadview Center.
Rodger Wyland and Brian Mariano have the call of the game on ESPN+, which can be viewed by clicking the corresponding link. Kelly O'Donnell and former Saint Conner Fenlon '12 will have the radio call of the game locally in the Capital Region on JAMZ 96.3 FM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The programs are set to meet in the 20
th official installment of the Albany Cup since the local rivalry was renewed in 2001 following the UAlbany elevation to the Division I level. Siena holds an 11-8 advantage in the Albany Cup, although the Great Danes reclaimed the trophy last season. Overall, the Capital Region foes meet for the 57
th time in a series which dates back to 1940, which the Saints lead 31-25.
Siena (3-0) enters this year's crosstown showdown seeking the program's first 4-0 November start in 26 years. Led by Syracuse legend and 2003 National Champion
Gerry McNamara – who is the first coach to begin his Siena tenure 3-0 in 42 years – the Saints boast overtime wins over both Brown and Bryant to go along with a victory Tuesday vs. American to open their season.
UAlbany (2-1) meanwhile secured its first win over a Division I opponent this season with an 87-73 win at Dartmouth Wednesday. The Great Danes were predicted to finish seventh out of nine teams according to the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 13-19 overall record last season including a 5-11 mark in league play.
