Oscar Martinez was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks by the conference office on Wednesday.
The freshman from La Guaira, Venezuela, continued his impressive rookie campaign by earning two more victories in Siena's 4-3 victory against Le Moyne on Senior Day at Tri-City Fitness in Latham this past Saturday.
Martinez improved to 12-6 overall in singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against graduate student Leon Grundstroem at the No. 2 position.
Grundstroem, who is having one of the better seasons on the Dolphins, dropped to 10-7 in singles play this season.
In doubles play, Martinez partnered with teammate and junior
Fabio Varella to defeat junior Peter Hatton and graduate student Luka Stojanovic 7-6 (4) at the No. 2 position.
Martinez improved his individual doubles record to 9-7.
Hatton and Stojanovic fell to 11-7 in doubles play including 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Martinez was previously named the MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 28 after a 4-0 week against Holy Cross and Sacred Heart.
Next up, the Saints (3-8) will travel to Olean, NY to take on St. Bonaventure (6-9) on Friday at 2 p.m.
