LOUDONVILLE, NY – Recent series history between Siena and Canisius Men's Lacrosse has usually meant that it's going to be a close game with an exciting finish.
The budding rivalry between the MAAC schools has resulted in a margin of victory by one goal in seven of the previous nine match ups while the other two match ups were decided by two and three goals.
In last season's thriller that took place in Buffalo, former Saint
Zac Schuette went five-hole to win it 10-9 with 12 seconds left in overtime.
Since 2004, the Saints and Golden Griffins have split the series exactly even with each team winning 11 times.
Siena (3-5 overall, 1-2 MAAC) and Canisius (2-7, 0-3 MAAC) will face off on Wednesday for a 12 p.m. start at Hickey Field with each squad looking to gain momentum as the conference schedule rolls on and the stretch run to the playoff draws closer.
"Their record [Canisius] isn't really a great reflection of how talented they are," said sixth-year Siena Men's Lacrosse head coach Gleason said.
"They can play with anybody. They didn't make the playoffs [last year], but we had to beat them in overtime so we have a lot of respect for them. They're coached very well and they got guys who ball and play well. But, we just need to just focus and play consistent lacrosse for 60 minutes."
The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ with Emmanuel Berbari and Tom Schwan on the call.

The Saints are coming off a loss in which it led 11-6 against LIU this past Saturday with 10:44 to play before allowing the last six goals of the game including the tying goal to Sean Boll with two seconds remaining before losing 12-11 in overtime on a goal by Owen Stefanko.
"To hold them to five goals through about three quarters and to let up six in the fourth, I think it's been a disappointment for us that has turned into motivation," Gleason said.
"It's not that our backs are up against the wall, but we don't have much room for errors and need to get some wins in MAAC play."
On the "X", Siena has received a big lift from graduate student
Dylan Pape, who won 15 of 27 face offs against LIU after winning 12 of 21 versus VMI, two teams that featured some of the better face off specialists in the conference.
