Men’s LAX looks to regroup in push for playoffs

Saints host Manhattan on Saturday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+

LOUDONVILLE, NY –  Siena Men's Lacrosse will have the opportunity for a last MAAC playoff push when it hosts Manhattan in the final regular season home game of the season on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Siena (5-7 overall, 3-4 MAAC) is coming off its fifth one-goal defeat of the season with the latest coming in Wednesday night's ESPNU game at Marist.

Battling back from a 12-6 deficit, the Saints got within one goal of the lead in the final minute of play.  Its first half had a lot of hard luck with several shots pinging off the post on Marist's side of the field.

Now, Manhattan (5-7, 5-2 MAAC) makes the trip to Hickey Field in hopes of clinching their own playoff berth.

This is a rematch of last season's MAAC Semifinals where the fourth-seeded Saints topped the top-seeded Jaspers on their field in Riverdale outside of the Bronx.

Last time out, the Jaspers also lost a nail biter by the score of 13-12 to LIU on Wednesday afternoon in Brookville.

Kyle Gucwa led Manhattan with four goals and has been a lightning rod for the Jaspers' offense with 53 points (31 goals, 22 assists) on the season.

Siena head coach Liam Gleason said the teams have a lot of similarities.

"This is a talented Manhattan team," coach Gleason said. "They have a lot of good, quality wins and they're disciplined. It's like looking in the mirror a bit here because they ride the clear well, run the same type of offense as we do and dodge from "X"."
With the top six teams qualifying for the MAAC postseason that begins in two weeks, it will be a critical game for both in terms of seeding and qualifying for the tournament.

Manhattan currently occupies the third seed while Siena is in a three-way tie for fifth place with Marist and VMI.

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ with Tom Schwan and Madison Jones on the call.

Live stats can be followed here as well as live updates and highlights through "X" @SienaLacrosse.

Siena's dynamic scoring duo of junior Pratt Reynolds (35 goals) and first-year attack Caden Olmstead (33 goals) rank first and fourth in the conference, respectively.

The potential faceoff "X" matchup is an intriguing one that features two graduate students who rank among the best in the conference in Siena's Dylan Pape (.549 win %) versus Manhattan's James Hogan (.472 win %).

Siena has held a heavy advantage in the series, leading 18-10 all-time, however the Saints have won 16 of the prior 18 match ups.
