Siena & Iona Complete Season Series

Program Welcomes Back Alumni Saturday Afternoon

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Former Siena Women's Basketball greats across all eras will be welcomed back to campus Saturday when the Saints (8-9, 5-3 MAAC) host the Iona Gaels (7-11, 5-3 MAAC) at 2 p.m. from the UHY Center.

Admission to Saturday's game is free for alumni of the program, and each of the former players, coaches, managers, and administrators will be seated in the new VIP section. Visit the registration page for more information on the outing.

Kelly O'Donnell and Brian Rubino have the call on ESPN+, while Joe Puccio and Steve Amedio will have the local broadcast on WVCR 88.3 FM. Tickets, international stream, live stats, and courtside X updates can be found by clicking the corresponding links.

The Saints are coming off a game in which they kept turnovers to a minimum with the team's 13 being tied for the second-fewest in a game this season. With that, it marked the sixth time in the last seven games that the Saints had 16 or more assists in a game.

With another 18-point outing Thursday, Teresa Seppala inched closer to joining teammate Ahniysha Jackson in the 1,000-point club - needing just 26 more. The junior has reached that mark at least twice in her career - once last season, and the other this season on Dec. 30, 2024 when she drained a career-high 31 against Cornell. The duo can become the first teammates to reach the program's 1,000-point club in the same season since Siena Hall of Fame inductee Kollyns Scarbrough and Megan Donohue did so in 2016-17.

Anajah Brown joined Seppala with double-digit scoring Thursday, doing so for the sixth time in her last seven games. Over that stretch, the senior is shooting 37-65 (57%) from the field, increasing her season field goal percentage to 50.9 - the fourth-ranked clip in the conference. Aside from her efficient shooting, Brown is one block away from becoming just the eighth player in program history to reach 100 for their career.

Iona erased a three-game losing skid Thursday with an 84-53 win over Rider to improve to 7-11 overall, and 5-3 in league play. The trio of Judith Gomez (8.9 PPG), Zoey Ward (8.9 PPG), and Ella Fajardo (8.6 PPG) spearhead an Iona offense that ranks 10th in the league averaging 56.2 points a night. Last time against Siena, Gomez and Fajardo set career-highs with 20 points each, however, neither have reached 15 since that game. Defensively, the Gaels rank in the middle of the league giving up 61.8 points to opponents with teams shooting .420 percent from the field, as well as .311 percent from three.

Saturday marks the 81st meeting between Siena and Iona, with the Saints holding a 46-34 edge in the series. The series has been tight since the turn of the century, with Iona having won 29 of 56 games since 2000-01. After the Gaels swept the series in 2022-23, Siena returned the favor last season by taking both games - 77-56 at home on Jan. 20, 2024, and 74-57 on the road on Feb. 8, 2024. After falling at Iona earlier this month, Siena looks to force a series split for the first time in two seasons. The Gaels claimed the last meeting earlier this month, 82-75, on Jan. 4 in New Rochelle, NY

Following Saturday, Siena remains home for what will be the program's 24th annual Pink Zone game at 6 p.m. on Thur., Jan. 30 against Marist. The Saints will once again partner with The Donna Foundation, and honor survivors and thrivers prior to the game. Tickets can be purchased here.
