Michael Ashe era of Siena Water Polo opened up to a 1-1 start for the 2025 season Saturday when the Saints split their season opening slate at the Princeton Invitational. The team topped Azusa Pacific in its first match, 13-12, before falling in a close contest to Bucknell, 9-8.

The Saints jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first period thanks to a pair of
Rebecca Currie goals, and one each from
Catherine Williamson,
Lucia Fernandez Caballero, and
Bianca Kennerley. Azusa Pacific battled back to score four in the second, making it a 7-5 match midway through.
In the third,
Parker Thomas created some more separation with a pair of goals, while
Audrey Lacey and Williamson tacked on one more each to give Siena an 11-8 lead entering the final frame.
Fernandez Caballero and
Quincy Frommelt put the finishing touches on the match in the fourth, with Frommelt netting the difference maker with 3:11 to play. Azusa Pacific came within one goal with 21 seconds remaining, but Siena fended off the comeback attempt for the season-opening win.
Bucknell 9, Siena 8
Catherine Williamson registered a hat-trick in the first period, helping the Saints march to an early 5-2 lead.
Siena would enter the midway point with a 7-4 lead thanks to a pair of
Rebecca Currie goals, however the attack fell silent in the second half as Bucknell outscored Siena 5-1 to end the match.
Siena finishes its trip to the Princeton Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Sunday against Saint Francis (PA).
