Women’s Lacrosse Surrenders Lead Versus Binghamton

Saints led 5-3 midway through third quarter

Box Score TROY, NY – Facing the defending America East champions Binghamton, the Siena Women's Lacrosse team were seeking to reverse its fortunes from last year's 15-9 regular season defeat to the Bearcats in Vestal.

In Saturday's rematch, the venue shifted from Siena's home turf of Hickey Field to RPI's Renwyck Lower Field due to adverse field conditions.

The Saints (0-1) placed themselves in position to earn an early season noteworthy victory by holding a two-goal lead past the midway point of the third quarter before ultimately falling 8-6 in its 29th season opener.

It was all Saints in the early goings as Siena jumped out a 3-0 start marked by a goal from senior attack Sarah Irish, and two goals and an assist from sophomore attack Jenna Pollicino.

But, the Bearcats (1-2) were determined to get back into after dropping its first two games at Villanova and Colgate to start their season.

All-American East Conference Preseason selection Olivia Muscolino got Binghamton on the board with 54 seconds remaining in the opening quarter before junior attack Emma Blloshmi scored four goals including a span of three consecutive scores for Binghamton to cut the Siena lead to 5-4 and then helped the Bearcats go ahead by two goals at 7-5.

Saints senior attack Kelly Logue sliced her way into the alley and cut into the lead to 7-6 with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter to give the Saints an opportunity.

But that hope was extinguished on a Saints' turnover and insurance free position goal by Muscolino with just 1:08 left in the game.

Siena also received goals from Meghan Decker and Grace Dobryznski to go ahead 5-3 with 6:31 left in the third quarter, but the Saints went scoreless for over 19 minutes before Logue's tally.

Siena dropped to 6-8 in the all-time series with Binghamton.

The Saints will travel downstate to take on RV Army West Point next Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
