The Siena Track and Field Teams challenged seven all-time program times at the Fast Track Invite on Staten Island's Ocean Breeze Athlete Complex during Friday's meet.
Keira Flaherty reset the program record that she originally set in the 800-meter as the Saints put forth a strong showing in one of the final tune ups before MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships later this month.Â
Flaherty, a senior, chased down her own school record, by resetting the time in the 800 with a 2:14.51.
The time beat out Lehigh's Lauryn Heskin by five tenths of a second and her teammate
Claire Gardner, who finished in third place, by a sixteenth of a second.
Gardner's time was second best in Siena history. Senior
Jennifer McClintock paced the Saints with the fourth-best time ever in the 800-meter, clocking in at 2:18.67 for 14
th best overall.Â
"It was a really strong showing for everybody across the board," said second-year Siena Track and Field head coach Elizabeth Debole.
"We doubled back from last weekend and got a lot of good work in today. Killian [McNamee] showed he's ready to run with anyone in the MAAC in a couple of weeks. Keira [Flaherty] is putting the pieces together for a big performance. Her ability to close is incredible! There were lots of other great performances as well. We are really excited to get back to training this week and gear up for the championship in two weeks."
McNamee ran the third fastest time in the program's history in the one-mile, finishing in 4:09.29, to place 15
th overall in the field.Â
The 800-meter was a momentous event for the Saints as
Tyler Greene finished with the sixth fastest time on the men's side with a time of 1:56.11 and locked up a spot in eighth.Â
Christopher DeForest secured the seventh best time in program's history for the indoor 5k (14:45.86), good enough for third place overall in the event.Â
Luke Tkaczyk had the eighth fastest time in the 3k, with a time of 8:20.77. Â That was fast enough for sixth place overall.Â
Siena will be back in competition with a smaller group traveling to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational next Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.Â
