Saint Francis (PA) 14, Siena 13 (OT)
Siena looked to avenge a loss to the Red Flash from two weeks back, and had good pace to do so. Having control for much of the match, the Green and Gold led 4-0 after the first with goals from
Lucia Fernandez Caballero,
Finn Magill,
Catherine Williamson, and
Quincy Frommelt.
The Saints eventually took a 6-3 lead into halftime, and Saint Francis turned a corner in the third. Siena's counterpart out-scored them 4-2 to open the second half, closing the gap to one goal, although the Saints still held an advantage at 8-7.
Saint Francis scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to even the score, while
Rebecca Currie put Siena back ahead not long after. The sides went back-and-forth until the Red Flash went ahead 11-10 with 38 seconds to play. However, when all looked lost for the Saints, Williamson threw in a heave at the final second - beating the buzzer to go into extra time.
There, Saint Francis out-scored Siena 3-2 to claim the thrilling match.
La Salle 19, Siena 15
La Salle led 4-2 after one, with
Catherine Williamson and
Cece White scoring for the Saints. Siena eventually fell behind by five entering halftime after surrendering six goals in the second period as the score stood at 10-5 in favor of La Salle.
Trailing by eight in the fourth, 18-10, the Saints refused to go down without a fight. Williamson (two) and
Ava Pawlik scored three goals in a row for the Green and Gold, while White and
Allyson Ricciardi put two more in following a La Salle goal to close the gap. However, Siena ran out of time in the four-goal loss.
Siena returns to the pool at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 15, for a non-conference bout on the road against RV Villanova.
