Shoats, Doty Earn All-MAAC Honors

Shoats Secures Second Team Acclaim, Doty Unanimous MAAC All-Rookie Team Pick

LOUDONVILLE, NY – A pair of Siena Basketball stars secured Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference superlatives for their standout regular season performances. Justice Shoats was heralded as an All-MAAC Second Team selection, while Gavin Doty was a unanimous choice for the MAAC All-Rookie Team.

Named MAAC Player of the Week Nov. 11, Shoats wrapped up the regular season ranking fourth in the conference in assists (4.6), fifth in scoring (16.0), and eighth in steals (1.8). The junior newcomer from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania has scored in double figures in 27 of 31 games, highlighted by nine 20-plus point performances including a pair of career-high tying 31-point efforts. Earlier this season, the Lock Haven transfer recorded both his 1,000th collegiate point and 100th steal. In conference play, Shoats averaged 17.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.0 steals.

Doty earned a league-high five MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season – two more than any other freshman – including four in the final six weeks. The Fulton, New York native ranks eighth overall in the MAAC in free throw percentage (.805), and just outside the top-10 in field goal percentage (.484 – 11th). Doty has appeared in all 31 games (16 starts), while averaging 11.2 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds. In conference action, he leads all league freshmen in scoring (14.1), rebounding (7.9), field goal percentage (.480), and free throw percentage (.815).

MAAC Regular Season Champion Quinnipiac and Manhattan combined to take home four of the five major awards. The Bobcats Amarri Monroe and Tom Pecora were named MAAC Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, while the Jaspers Devin Denkins was Sixth Player of the Year and Will Sydnor Rookie of the Year. Bryan Etumnu of Merrimack was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Four Saints also earned MAAC All-Academic Team acclaim, which honors student athletes who have both completed a minimum of two semesters at their current institution and who possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The Siena honorees were junior Brendan Coyle and sophomores Mosi Clayton, Michael Ojo, and Bralyn Smith.

The ninth-seeded Saints begin their quest for a seventh Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship against No. 8 seed Rider in MAAC First Round action Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
