LOUDONVILLE, NY – It will be just eight days since Marist and Siena Men's Lacrosse last met on the turf and it sets up a postseason rematch as well from last season.
With each of those outcomes tilting in the Saints' favor with a 12-9 win in last year's playoffs match up and this season's 24-9 drubbing, Siena knows not to become overconfident.
"Yes, it's a team we just beat," said Siena head coach
Liam Gleason.
"But as we say each week, it doesn't matter who the opponent is, what the record is, where they're from. It just matters how we play. We played at a very high-level last week and I want to continue to go out there and do that. But last week's competition doesn't score us any goals tomorrow so for us, it's just about going out there and playing a similar level—if not— a better level."
The second-seeded Saints (9-4) extended its winning streak to seven consecutive games after last Wednesday's win.
The current win streak is the longest since it won eight games in a row from March 14 through April 21, 2012.
Siena has drawn enough attention to warrant receiving votes in a major national poll for three consecutive weeks—earning votes in the Week 12 USILA Coaches Poll this week and had received votes in each of the prior two Inside Lacrosse Kane Division I Men's Lacrosse Media Poll. It also marks the first time this has occurred since a three-week stretch from April 21 through May 5, 2014 when Siena last won the MAAC Championship.
Fourth-seeded Marist (8-7) rebounded well against No. 5 Manhattan with a 16-7 win this past Sunday at home to advance.
Peter Murray led the Red Foxes with five goals while Collin Patrick and Steven Cain each completed hat tricks of their own.
Adam Wacholder made nine saves in goal to earn the victory.
The Saints lead the Red Foxes in the all-time series history 23-22 while Siena broke Marist nine-game win streak against the Saints in last year's MAAC Quarterfinals with a 12-9 win in Poughkeepsie.
Siena is 12-8 all-time in the MAAC Tournament including 3-1 against Marist in postseason games. Siena beat Marist 12-9 in 2024 in Poughkeepsie while the Red Foxes defeated the Saints 12-7 for the 2023 MAAC Championship. Siena defeated Marist in the 2014 MAAC Championship 11-7 and also topped the Red Foxes 11-9 in 2012.
Siena sports the leader in goals per game at 3.69 from senior
