Box Score Siena Water Polo completed its trip to Villanova, PA, Sunday afternoon with a test against nationally ranked Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe #19 Wagner Seahawks. Following a back-and-forth first half, Wagner pulled away in the second to upend the Saints 23-16.
Siena's 16 goals against the Seahawks were the most the program has ever scored against its conference foes, while sophomore
Catherine Williamson accounted for a career-high nine. The Green and Gold started with a 2-0 lead backed by
Lucia Fernandez Caballero and Williamson within the first two minutes. An additional two by Williamson in the period helped grow the Saints' lead to three in the first, until Wagner closed the gap to one by the start of the second at 6-5.
The sophomore netted three of Siena's four in the second frame, while the Seahawks notched five of their own to enter the break with the match tied 10-10. After Wagner scored a pair to open the third, Williamson and
Rebecca Currie evened it back up at 12-12 with 5:46 to play, however, Wagner ended on a 6-0 run to go into the fourth ahead 18-12.
From there, the Seahawks maintained at least a six-goal lead to fight off a fierce Siena team early in the match.
