Ortega named New Assistant Athletic Director/Business

Saints welcome former administrative manager, DEI committee member to staff

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena College has appointed Olivia Ortega as the new Assistant Athletic Director / Business for the Saints Athletics Administration.

"The athletic department is extremely excited to announce the addition of our new Assistant Athletic Director of Business, Olivia" said Siena Vice President/ Director of Athletics John D'Argenio.

"Olivia's work ethic, personality and experience as a student athlete will make her a valuable asset here at Siena and we look forward to her starting the position."

"I chose Siena College because my passion for athletics didn't end when I stepped off the softball field for the last time at American International College," Ortega said.

"From my very first interview, I felt a genuine sense of family and a strong culture of collaboration. It was clear that Siena not only valued the open position, but truly respected the impact of the work being done. That kind of support and shared purpose made me feel an immediate sense of belonging."

Previously, Ortega served as the administrative manager for the University at Albany's College of Nanotechnology, supporting the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Environmental and Sustainable Engineering (ESE).  In this role, she managed department accounts, budgets, personnel records and ensured compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations.

Additional duties included overseeing the secure handling of confidential faculty and student data, ensured adherence to FERPA; coordinating academic resources and scheduling and assisting with onboarding and record management for departmental hires using University systems.

Prior to that position, Ortega worked as an FMLA Leave Specialist in Human Resources for Paychex, as well as a benefits specialist for 401K plans in the role of Senior Associate Service Specialist.

Ortega earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in international business and a minor in economics and finance from American International College, where she also competed as a Division II softball student-athlete.  She's bilingual in Spanish and was a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee Member from 2021 through 2024.

Ortega was also the recipient of the Inclusivity & Engagement Award Winner in 2022 for spearheading the recruitment subcommittee of the DEI initiative that promoted inclusive hiring practices and engaged underrepresented candidates through outreach at school and community locations.
