LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Baseball red-shirt freshman catcher
Aidan Paradine has earned another major postseason honor. The Bayonne, New Jersey native has been named an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division I Northeast All-Region Second Team selection.
Paradine was one of only six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference players to earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region acclaim, joining fellow Northeast All-Region selections Matthew Bucciero (First Team), Dean Ferrara (Second Team), and Ben Alekson (Second Team), all of Fairfield, and East All-Region First Team honorees Joe Tiroly and Brian Young from Rider. The Northeast Region is comprised of 38 Division I baseball programs.
Paradine becomes just the seventh ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honoree in the 2000's, and first in eight years since Joe Drpich earned First Team recognition back in 2017. Additional recent Saints honorees are Matt Quintana (2015 – Second Team), Mike Fish (2013 – First Team), Dan Paolini (2011 – First Team, 2010 – Second Team), and Jim Buckley (2002 – Second Team).
Paradine earned Second Team All-MAAC honors this spring after ranking third overall in the conference in batting average (.370) and fourth in on-base percentage (.474). He also led the Saints in hits (71), runs scored (48), and OPS (1.010) while appearing in 53 games (52 starts). Paradine, who was previously named a Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List selection (nation's most outstanding catcher), added seven home runs and 41 RBI while posting 19 multi-hit and 10 multi-RBI performances, and achieved a team-best 27-game reached base streak during the second half of the season.
Paradine's performance played a big role in Siena achieving the program's most successful season in nearly a decade. The Saints won 22 games overall – a 10-win improvement from the previous season and the program's highest total in nine years – while the 17 league victories equaled the 2014 MAAC Championship squad for the highest total in 20 years.
The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams cover eight geographic regions encompassing the entirety of the country, and are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. The process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America and Coach of the Year Committee, which is chaired by Brian Green (Wichita State), and also includes Mitch Canham (Oregon State), Chris Curry (Little Rock), Dean Ehehalt (Monmouth), Jeff Mercer (Indiana), Brian O'Connor (Mississippi State), Jim Penders (UConn), and Butch Thompson (Auburn).
