Three XC/Track Student Athletes Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Gardner, Flaherty & McNamee recognized for high achievement in athletics and classroom

The 2025 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field and in the classroom, on Tuesday.

The Siena Cross Country and Track teams were represented with three student athletes named onto the team. Nominees must have met certain qualifications in order to be considered. 

Student-athletes must have been at least in their sophomore academic year, maintained at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average and had a Top-50 individual performance at the 2024 NCAA regional competition or a Top-50 regional ranking in a single event for indoor or outdoor track events.

Among the selections included graduate student Killian McNamee from the men's side as well as seniors Keira Flaherty and Claire Gardner. 

McNamee was one of two Saints on the men's team to achieve a 4.0 cumulative GPA and join the exclusive "4.0 club" recipients list.

The Tolland, CT native had several top regional finishes including a fifth-place finish in the Black & Gold Invitational with a time of 3:50.51 in the 1,500-meter event and he won the 5K event at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University with a time of 14:09.4.

It was the third fastest time in Siena Track's program history.

Additionally, McNamee ran the 3,000-meter in 8:05.01 at the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and was 14th in the 8K of the 2024 MAAC Cross Country Championships, crossing the finish line in 24:39.3. 

Gardner finished as one of nine female cross country/track student athletes with a 4.0 term GPA and closed out her collegiate career with a 3.74 cumulative GPA, earning her degree in Health Studies last month.

On the track, the Chestnut Ridge, NY native had numerous top finishes. Among them, Gardner placed ninth in the RPI Capital District Classic Invitational with a time of 57.74 in the 400-meter, a first-place finish in the 800-meter event at the Princeton Elite Invitational (2:09.04) and a second-place spot in the 800-meter of the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (2:12.91).

Additionally, she was 10th at the Utica Winter Open in the 3,000-meter (9:53.21), 14th at the 2024 MAAC Cross Country Championships in the 6K event (21:13.2) and 29th at the 2024 IC4A/ECAC XC Championships with a time of 21:49.4. 

Flaherty achieved a 3.69 term GPA to close out her collegiate career with a 3.6 cumulative GPA and earned her degree in Astrophysics.

The Yorktown Heights, NY native won the 2025 Indoor IC4A./ECAC Track & Field Championships in the 800-meter with a time of 2:11.22. At the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic, Flaherty was third with a time of 4:52.51 in the one-mile event. In the Utica Winter Open, she placed 11th, clocking in at 9:53.99 in the 3,000-meter.

Additionally, she placed 21st in the 400-meter of the RPI Capital District Classic Invitational, second in the Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 2:11.50 in the 800-meter and was fifth in the 1,500-meter at the Rider Invitational with a time of 4:32.92. 

In the 2024 MAAC Cross Country Championships, Flaherty placed 24th overall in the 6K event (22:01.4).      

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.

Those who were named finalists advanced to the national ballot that will be voted on by CSC members.

Women's Track & Field / Cross Country First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be named on Tuesday, July 15 with the men's choices to follow on Wednesday, July 16.
