LOUDONVILLE, NY – After playing five away scrimmages and beginning the 2026 season on the road, Siena Men's Lacrosse will embrace the home confines of Hickey Field to take on Hofstra for a third consecutive season this Saturday at 12 p.m.
Siena (0-1), who took a 23-7 defeat to then #16 / #17 Boston University last Friday, will look to bounce back in facing a CAA opponent that was projected to finish fourth in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Pride (1-1) opened their season with a 14-7 win at MAAC member Iona on Feb. 2 before dropping an 9-8 double overtime loss to Holy Cross last Friday.
Hofstra leads the all-time series with Siena 2-1, but the Saints topped the Pride 17-11 in last season's meeting in Hempstead behind a six-point performance from graduate student
Conor Hufnagel and a hat trick from the stick of senior
Gavin Blenk.
Sophomore attack Drew Bogardus had two goals and two assists while redshirt senior Trevor Natalie added two goals to lead Hofstra in that match up.
Through two games, Natalie leads Hofstra with five goals, three assists and two groundballs followed by senior attack Anthony Mollica (three goals, three assists, three ground balls) and Bogardus (four goals, five ground balls, one caused turnover).
"This is the first time that we get to compete against another jersey on our home field so we're going to be excited," said senior midfielder
Colby LeBlanc, who scooped two ground balls in the opener at BU.
Siena is 14-5 (.737) over the past three seasons at home
"As coach G (Gleason) used to call it, 'Hickey Beach'" said senior long stick midfielder
R.J. Ihlefeld, who led the Saints with four ground balls and a caused turnover in last week's opener.
"We take the snow out of the equation. Call it a beach. The sun is going to be glowing so we'll all pumped. Obviously, it's going to be a little weird without him (coach Gleason), but I think after that first game—we've been able to learn what it's like without him. We trust coach Cox with everything and we're going to follow him. And, we're going to play our brand of lacrosse."
"Get back to Hickey Beach and there's a home field advantage and it's a true thing in college sports," said head coach
Tim Cox.
"When you have our own fans and your own locker room, it just feels a little bit like home, right?—especially when you have the spaces in practice all week and you hope it gives you an advantage. At the end of the day, it's 60 minutes and you got to go out and compete and make more plays than Hofstra does."
Another key figures to be the face off "X" where it pits Siena sophomore
Logan Banek (9 for 23) and senior
Tyler Kuprianchik versus Hofstra redshirt sophomore Owen Bosak (13 for 32) and redshirt junior Cole Myers (3 for 14).
