Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Juice Flows at “Hickey Beach”

Saints jump on Hofstra early; take home opener as Coach Cox earns first win at head of table

LOUDONVILLE, NY – What a day to be a Saint at "Hickey Beach."

The Siena Men's Lacrosse team got their 2026 jumpstarted at their home confines of Hickey Field with a huge first quarter fueled by the offense of Caden Olmstead and Patrick Radomski, a steely defensive effort by its new starting goalkeeper Vito DeBellis, and a gutsy performance by faceoff specialist Tyler Kuprianchik.

In doing so, it gave coach Tim Cox his first career victory as a head coach on a weekend where men's lacrosse teams around the country paid homage to late Saints coach Liam Gleason with "LG" pins.

Siena (1-1) scored six first quarter goals and went on to defeat Hofstra 14-10 on Saturday to improve their home record to 15-5 (.750) over the past three plus seasons at home.

Radomski finished with four goals and an assist, Olmstead added a hat trick and Travis Fry contributed two goals and two assists.

Siena maintained their lead with successful faceoffs, winning 16 out of 27 overall (.592) and receiving a boost from Kuprianchik, who won 13 of 21 (.619).

On defense, both Joe Valenza and R.J. Ihlefeld were extremely active with five ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece.

The game commenced with a faceoff win for Siena, setting the stage for an eventful first quarter. Hofstra initially took the lead with a man-up goal by Gus Langtry, assisted by Trey Parkes at 12:01. Siena responded swiftly, with Olmstead equalizing just over a minute later, assisted by Conor Hufnagel. The Saints continued to find the back of the net, with Radomski scoring twice and Logan Cash adding another, extending their lead. Despite Hofstra's efforts, including a saved shot by DeBellis at the quarter's close, Siena ended the first quarter with a commanding 6-1 advantage.

Trevor Natalie of Hofstra (1-2) scored early in the second quarter at 7:07, narrowing the gap. Siena responded with a goal by Radomski at 5:51, assisted by Riley Hegarty, reclaiming momentum.

Joe Valenza extended the Saints' lead with a score at 1:38. Despite multiple saves by Hofstra's Shea Kennedy, the Saints outscored their opponent 2-1 in the quarter, leading to a halftime advantage of 8-2.

The third quarter featured a back-and-forth scoring exchange between the Saints and Hofstra, with Hofstra initially taking advantage of an extra-man opportunity. Drew Bogardus scored at 14:01, assisted by Natalie, putting Hofstra on the board early in the quarter. The Saints responded with goals from Xander Derkatz and Hufnagel within a minute, narrowing the gap. Hofstra's Natalie and Anthony Mollica added to their lead, with Mollica scoring unassisted at 5:24. Fry capitalized on a man-up situation at 2:59, assisted by Radomski, but Hofstra's Joey DeYoung closed the quarter with a goal at 1:17. The quarter ended with Saints leading the Pride 11-7.

In the fourth quarter, Hofstra's Joey DeYoung scored at 11:35 with an assist from Mollica, capitalizing on a turnover by the Saints. Olmstead responded for the Saints with a goal at 7:22, assisted by Fry, keeping the game competitive. Hofstra's Natalie then netted another goal at 4:03, but the Saints' Patrick Linton scored a man-up goal at 1:14, followed by Radomski's goal at 0:56 to extend the Saints' lead. Langtry scored a man-up goal for Hofstra at 0:45, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Next up, Siena stays home to host Binghamton (0-2) on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The Bearcats have lost a pair of 10-9 decisions at Lafayette and versus St. Bonaventure.
