On Saturday, it was the Siena Women Track Team's turn at gearing up one final time in competition before next weekend's MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Mattingly O'Rourke sure made the most of it.
The senior from Glenville, NY smashed her previous best mark in the 1,000-meter by beating a time that she ran in the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic over three years ago by over six seconds.
O'Rourke had something extra in store this time around as the product of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School turned in at 2:56.55 to secure a Top-30 finish at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
It was the fourth fastest time in Siena Women's Track history.
"A massive personal best for Mattingly," said third-year Siena Track head coach
Elizabeth DeBole.
When asked when she knew that O'Rourke could have done something special today, coach DeBole said it's every time that she steps onto the track.
"She (Mattingly) opened up with her fastest 800-meter ever! Then, she set a mile personal best last weekend. And now this. She is so strong—both mentally and physically. It's been really fun watching her enjoy the process."
Other Siena notables in the 800-meter race included senior
Julianna Tourangeau, who ran a 2:23.63, while freshman
Avery Kozerski clocked in at 2:24.44.
