COLONIE, NY – Siena Men's Lacrosse was ready for takeoff as the Saints had eight players score multiple goals in a 21-9 rout of Air Force on Tuesday at Afrim's Sports Park.
It was the most goals scored in a game for the Saints since April 23, 2025 when it put up 24 goals on Marist to close out last year's regular season.
The game was moved to Afrim's due to the frigid temperatures outside in the Capital Region.
Junior
Patrick Radomski, the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week who was fresh off a 10-point performance in last Tuesday's win over Binghamton, put forth another team-leading day with seven points (two goals and five assists) while graduate student
Conor Hufnagel and
Travis Fry each produced hat tricks.
Patrick Linton,
Gavin Blenk,
Adam Rayfield,
Nikolas Barbero and
Joe Valenza all added two goals apiece for the Saints, who led 8-3 at the break and piled on eight additional goals in the third quarter.
It was a day of firsts as well for Siena players as Rayfield, a sophomore, scored his first two career goals as a Saint.
Thomas Brennan, a redshirt freshman, notched his first career goal. Sophomore
Michael Felicetti registered his first two points (both assists) and freshman
Hans Hoerschelmann recorded his first career assist. Graduate student
Riley Hegarty, a Stony Brook transfer, notched his first career goal as a Saint as well.
Vito DeBellis stopped nine shots and played the full 60 minutes to improve to 3-1 as a starter.
The first quarter began with Siena taking control early, as Blenk scored the opening goal at 13:57. Siena extended its lead with
Caden Olmstead finding the net at 12:45, assisted by Radomski. Air Force responded with a goal from Christian Schweiger, assisted by Luke Vrsansky at 11:07. However, Siena maintained momentum with Linton scoring at 6:07, again assisted by Radomski, and Hufnagel adding another goal at 3:22. Despite Air Force's efforts, including multiple saves by
Vito DeBellis, the quarter ended with Siena leading 4-1.
Siena extended its lead in the second quarter with a strong offensive showing. Linton opened the scoring with a goal at 12:00, assisted by Hufnagel. Shortly after, Radomski added to Siena's tally with an unassisted goal at 10:23. Fry further increased the margin with a goal at 08:54, prompting an Air Force timeout. Air Force responded with goals from Vrsansky at 08:03 and Schweiger at 03:07, but Siena's Valenza capped the quarter with a goal at 00:40, assisted by Radomski, solidifying a 8-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
Siena extended its lead over Air Force with a strong performance in the third quarter, highlighted by a man-up goal from Fry, assisted by Hufnagel, just 36 seconds into play. Ben Heidt responded for Air Force at 13:34, but Siena quickly regained momentum with goals from Hufnagel and Radomski, pushing the score to 11-4. Following a timeout, Siena continued its scoring spree with another goal from Hufnagel and a man-up goal by Fry, advancing the score to 13-5.
Nikolas Barbero and Valenza added to Siena's tally, while Rayfield closed the quarter with a final goal, assisted by Radomski, sealing the quarter at 16-5.
Siena maintained a solid lead in the final quarter, beginning with a goal by
Riley Hegarty at 12:37. Air Force responded with a goal from Cole Rassas, assisted by Henry Spencer, at 11:16, but Siena quickly countered with Blenk scoring at 10:12. Schweiger added a goal for Air Force at 8:59, followed by Spencer's contribution at 6:25. Siena's scoring was bolstered by Rayfield and Barbero, with Rayfield scoring at 5:42 and Barbero at 3:59. Despite a late goal from Air Force's Heidt at 2:09, Siena's
Thomas Brennan sealed the game with a goal at 0:49, ensuring a decisive victory.
Next up, Siena (3-1) will travel to Hanover, New Hampshire to take on Dartmouth (1-1) on Saturday, February 28 at 12 p.m.
The Big Green lost to then #19/#20 Boston University 13-5 and responded with a 14-10 victory against Vermont.
Dartmouth plays Merrimack on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
