Gavin Doty Named Finalist For Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award

Sophomore Standout Becomes Fourth Player in Program History Considered For Honor

LOUDONVILLE, NY – After leading Siena Men's Basketball to the program's seventh Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship earlier this week, sophomore guard Gavin Doty has earned some well-deserved national recognition. Doty has been named one of 30 finalists nationally for the CollegeInsider.com 2025-26 Lou Henson Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major college basketball player.

Doty becomes the fourth Siena Basketball player in program history and first in six years to be considered for the Lou Henson Award. Jalen Pickett was one of 40 players named to the final Lou Henson All-America Team in 2020, while OD Anosike was one of 25 honorees in 2012, and Edwin Ubiles one of 30 in 2010.

The MAAC Tournament MVP and a unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection, Doty ranks in the top-10 in the MAAC in multiple offensive categories: second in scoring (17.9), third in minutes (36:40 – 18th nationally), fourth in both assist-to-turnover ratio (2.17) and defensive rebounding (5.5), seventh in rebounding (7.0), and eighth in free throw percentage (.855).

Named MAAC Player of the Week Jan. 26, the Fulton, New York standout also paces the Saints with 14 20-point efforts and six double-doubles.

Doty has totaled 608 points – currently fourth most in program single-season history and the highest total in 24 years (Dwayne Archbold – 715 points in 2001-02) – while his 17.9 points per game is the highest scoring average by a Siena player since Ryan Rossiter averaged 18.7 points during the 2010-11 season.

The Lou Henson Award honors the late Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons. The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of CollegeInsider.com. The 2026 award recipient will be announced in Indianapolis, site of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Dancing for the first time in 16 years, Siena and Doty await their NCAA Tournament matchup to be revealed during the selection show Sunday at 6 p.m. on CBS.
