LOUDONVILLE, NY – If it's a Siena and Canisius lacrosse match up, it usually means a razor-thin margin of victory for one or the other.
In the past 11 games between the schools, eight of those have been decided by one goal, one by two goals and another by three goals.
On Saturday, the rivalry will be renewed once again at Hickey Field for a 12 p.m. opening draw in a conference game.
While Canisius leads the all-time series 25-13, the Saints have gone 12-9 against the Golden Griffins in the past 21 match ups including a 16-10 win in Buffalo last April.
An interesting trend with the road team winning in nine of the previous 10 games has also emerged.
Siena (7-2, 3-0 MAAC) enters on a four-game winning streak off the heels of an exciting 11-10, double overtime victory at Marist on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, the Golden Griffins (3-6, 2-1 MAAC) have topped both Iona and Quinnipiac in conference play, but are coming off an 18-6 defeat at undefeated Sacred Heart last Saturday.
The face off "X" will feature the MAAC's last two Face Off Specialists of the Year in Canisius senior Micah Hanson (106 for 172; .616), who was the 2024 MAAC FOGO of the Year and Siena sophomore
Logan Banek (73 for 113; .646), who was the 2025 MAAC FOGO of the Year.
The two are also among the leaders in ground balls for the conference lead. Hanson ranks tied for first with 67 ground balls (7.44 per game) while Banek ranks third with 7.29 ground balls per game (51 ground balls in seven games played).
The Saints have had dual success with their face off specialists as senior
Tyler Kuprianchik (56 for 107; .523) also ranks seventh in the conference in faceoff win percentage.
In goal, the Golden Griffins have split time between Sam Koslowski (196 plus minutes), Tommy Kunz (180 minutes), Mark Matott (92 plus minutes) and Brady Robinson (75 minutes). Kosloski has seen the most season success on paper with a team-high 40 saves and a team-best .533 save percentage. He sports a record of 2-1.
For the Saints, senior
Vito DeBellis has been in net for the near entirety of the season and ranks third in goals against average for those who have played enough qualifying minutes with a 10.54 goals-against average, is ranked sixth in save percentage (.489) and is fifth in saves per game (10.00).
Siena's offense ranks second in the MAAC with 117 goals scored as six players have scored at least 12 points including
Patrick Radomski (51),
Caden Olmstead (27),
Conor Hufnagel (27),
Travis Fry (16),
Patrick Linton (13) and
Gavin Blenk (12).
Canisius has allowed the third fewest goals in the MAAC with 96 goals allowed.
Siena and Canisius rank number one and two in man-up goals per game as the Saints have cashed in 12 times while the Golden Griffins have 11 thus far this season.
