LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse returns home on Wednesday when it hosts Mount St. Mary's (Md) in a conference match up with a 3 p.m. opening draw set for Hickey Field.
Siena (6-5 overall, 1-2 MAAC) will be seeking to ramp up its offensive production. After starting the season with a program-best 5-0 record and averaging 13.0 goals per game in the month of February, the Saints have averaged 7.33 goals per contest during the month of March when they went 1-5.
However, the month of April has been where Siena head coach
Danielle Schwan-Tetreault and her teams have shined in the past, sporting a 13-1 record during the month over the last two seasons.
The Mountaineers (7-4 overall, 3-0 MAAC) have rolled in the prior two contests, outscoring Marist and Rider by a combined score of 35-3. On Monday, the conference announced that Hailey Chester had earned the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors while Haylee Bittinger (five goals scored in this span) was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. MC Allingham scored six times with an assist in the win against Rider. The Mount will be seeking to start 4-0 in conference play for a second consecutive season.
The Mount leads the all-time series with Siena 5-2 and won last year's meeting in Emmitsburg, Md. 12-10 behind a six-goal first quarter that the Mountaineers put on the board.
Junior attack
Olivia Nicholson led the Saints with four goals in that game while the now graduated Anna Salerno notched five goals for the Mount.
The Mount has been led by sophomore midfielder Brooke Molchanoff, who has a MAAC-leading 53 points with 39 goals. The Mountaineers offer up one of the most challenges offenses in the conference as the team ranks second in the MAAC in goals scored per game (13.73), third in points per game (18.91), second in shots per game (31.55), and are second in shots on goal per game (23.09).
On the other side, the Saints counter with stingy defense that has allowed the second lowest goals against average per game at 8.52.
In net, two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore
McAllister Salter sports an 8.85 goals-against-average (second in the MAAC), a .457 save percentage (fourth), 75 saves (ninth) and 31 ground balls (second).
