Longtime Athletic Department Secretary Passed Away July 20

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena University mourns the loss of longtime athletic department secretary Sybille Cowan, who passed away on July 20 at the age of 82. A Memorial Mass will be held in the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel on the Siena campus on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m.

The Memorial Mass is open to all friends and family, and will be followed by light refreshments in the Francis Room. The Memorial Mass will also be livestreamed online at youtube.com/@sienachaplainsoffice.

For 38 years, Sybille touched the lives of thousands of Saints while serving as athletic department secretary. She was the heart and soul of Siena Athletics. You would be hard-pressed to find a student athlete over the past half century – or anyone associated with Siena for that matter – who wasn't directly impacted by her love, compassion, kindness, and beautiful smile.

Born in Innsbruck, Austria during World War II, Sybille is survived by her children – and Siena graduates – Juliet Van Kampen '89 and Peter Cowan '94. Her grandson, Gregory Van Kampen, is a member of the Siena Class of 2027. Sybille is also survived by her son-in-law Peter Van Kampen, daughter-in-law Helena Cowan, additional grandchildren Nick, Teddy, Isabella, and Julia, and her siblings Peter (Barbara) Somerville, Gerold Jindra, Alice Fuchs, and Titus Jindra.
