LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena University student athletes continue to raise the bar academically. Saints set numerous department academic records during the 2025-26 academic year, highlighted by new benchmarks for overall, male, and female student athlete grade-point average, and Metro Conference Academic Honor Roll selections.
 
"Our student athletes continue to prove that excellence is not a destination, but a habit," said Siena President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D. "Setting new academic records year after year speaks to a culture that values discipline and perseverance with an earnest desire for lifelong learning. These achievements reflect the dedication of our students, the mentorship of our coaches and faculty, and the unwavering support of our academic staff."
 
Capping off another record-breaking 2025-26 Siena Athletics academic year was the announcement Wednesday of a new benchmark of 267 Saints who were named to the Metro Conference (formerly Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference – MAAC) Academic Honor Roll. Siena sets a new department record for the ninth consecutive year for Metro Academic Honor Roll selections, which recognizes all student athletes who maintained a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average or better through the conclusion of the 2025-26 academic year. The 267 honorees mark an increase of 11 from the previous record established last year, and is a nearly a 60% improvement over the past nine years (171 honorees in 2017-18). Moreover, a new record 75% of the entire Siena student athlete population of 354 Saints earned Metro Academic Honor Roll acclaim during the 2025-26 school year.
 
"Year in and year out our student athletes continue to set the standard academically, and we could not be prouder of their achievements," said Vice President/Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. "Setting new department records across the board academically once again is a testament not only to our superlative Saints, but the coaches who recruit and mentor them, and our S.A.IN.T.S Office who help us achieve our mission of Building Better Saints." 
 
Siena student athletes also set new department records for cumulative GPA, male GPA, and female GPA. At the conclusion of the 2025-26 academic year, Saints now boast a 3.46 cumulative GPA, two points higher than the previous benchmark most recently matched the previous year, and a 29-point improvement spanning the past nine years. The 3.34 male cumulative GPA smashed the previous record of 3.27 set last year, while the 3.56 female GPA surpassed the previous benchmark of 3.55 equaled last year.
 
"A record-setting cumulative GPA and a record number of Metro Academic Honor Roll honorees demonstrate not only exceptional individual achievement, but also a campus-wide commitment to student success," said Interim Provost Chris Farnan, Ph.D. "We are proud to support our student athletes today, and we look forward to the meaningful contributions they will make in their professions and communities as Siena graduates."
 
A new record 82 Saints – smashing the previous benchmark of 71 set two years ago in 2023-24 – earned "4.0 Club" status for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during either the Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026 semesters, with 24 student athletes recorded unblemished GPAs both semesters.
 
"Our Saints consistently demonstrate a dedication to academic achievement and personal development," said Assistant Athletic Director/Advising Anthony Pelliccia '17. "Our 'Building Better Saints' framework – supported by our coaches, faculty, and campus partners – ensures that our student athletes receive the comprehensive support needed to excel throughout their time at Siena. We appreciate all of the work our student athletes put in to find success in both the classroom, and their sport."
 
Additional 2025-26 Siena Athletics academic highlights included 12 programs posting perfect multi-year academic progress rate scores of 1,000 for the most recent year reflected in the NCAA APR Report, and the department achieving a 94% graduation success rate in the latest NCAA GSR Report.
 
Siena Athletics continues to put an important emphasis on academic success as a key pillar in its mission towards "Building Better Saints," which has been aided by the launch of the Bob Guido '68 Athletic Academic Center in the Spring of 2022.
