Saints Golfers Place Tenth and Twelfth in Spring Opener

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Siena men's golf team placed two squads in the top fourteen teams at the Florida A&M Sprintime in Tallahassee, Fla. Head Coach Tom Wronoski's "A" team finished with a two-day score of 633 while the "B" team finished two places behind with a score of 659. The tournament was won by Campbell University who carded a 575 total on the par 72, 6,333-yard Hilman Golf Club. Individual medalist honors went to Florida A&M's Patrick Irwin who turned in a seven-under-par 137 (68-69) to finish four shots ahead of the next closest competitior. The field was made up of 76 players, from teams predominately from the southern states with only the Saints and five other squads coming from the north.

The top scorer for the Saints was junior Shane McMahon (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) who fired a 152 (78-74) to finish in a tie for 31st. McMahon and teammate Ben Eldridge (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) led the Saints "A" team with Eldridge finishing in a tie for 43rd with a 157 (78-79). Also scoring well for the "A" team were Chris Rousseau (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) (83-79) and Luke Esposito (Fayetteville, N.Y./CBA) (81-81) who each tied for 50th place.

On the Saints "B" squad, Jim Ohlsen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Spa Catholic) posted an impressive 156 (79-77) to finish alone in 42nd place. Mark Thornhill (Saratoga, N.Y./Saratoga) and (Bryan Tafel Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) also turned in solid rounds with scores of 166 (86-80) and 167 (89-78) respectively
