Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- Prosper Karangwa scored 33 points and connected on three late free-throws to force an overtime session, helping Siena to a 94-89 win over the Upstate All-Stars at Pepsi Arena Wednesday evening. Lawrence Moten (Syracuse University) scored a game-high 42 points to lead the Upstate All-Stars.

The Saints raced to an 11-0 lead out of the gate and held an 18-2 advantage before the first stoppage of play.

The All-Stars responded behind Moten with a tide-changing 20-5 run to take their first lead of the game, 23-22 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half. The two teams played even the rest of the half and the Saints took a 44-43 lead to the locker room.

Moten paced the All-Stars to a six point lead moments after the intermission, but Siena responded with a 10-0 run taking the lead back on an acrobatic lay-up by Tommy Mitchell. Freshman Paul Williams scored four of his 18 points during the run.

After Moten briefly gave the All-Stars the lead again with one of his seven three-point field goals, the Saints appeared to seize the momentum scoring the next seven points to take a six-point lead with just over two and a half minutes remaining.

The All-Stars battled back once more, however, using a 9-0 run to take a 77-74 lead with 35 seconds remaining. Charles Manga (Seton Hall University) scored the go-ahead basket on a turnaround lay-up and rejected the Saints' counter on the other end of the floor to cap off the rally.

Karangwa then drew a foul off an up-fake from behind the three-point arc and promptly converted all three of his attempts from the charity stripe to tie the score. Karamgwa then got the job done on the defensive end of the court forcing Moten into an off-balance three as time expired.

Karangwa began the overtime session with a three and connected on a second after Fred Cofield (Eastern Michigan) closed the advantage to a single point with one of two threes in the overtime. After another Moten bomb, Karangwa struck again with a leaning three to put the Saints up by a commanding six points. He followed Moten's 42nd point-a three from the top the key with a driving lay-up to account for the final tally.

Jamal Jackson played a solid point guard and grabbed 11 rebounds in his debut. Center Brent Sniezyk chipped in 10 points and 12 boards for the Saints.

The All-Stars consisted of former collegiate standouts, most of which attended an Upstate New York College. Siena begins regular-season play a week from Saturday against cross-town rival Albany. Game time will be 20 minutes following the women's game, which is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m.
