Women's Soccer Completes Class of 2008

March 10, 2004

Siena women's soccer coach has announced the completion of the class of 2008 with the addition of four more high school seniors. Joining the Saints for the 2004 season are Kara Sefcik (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Katie Mulligan (Staten Island, N.Y.), Katie McManus (Northboro, Mass.) and Susie Blaisdell (Exeter, N.H.).

Sefcik, a midfielder out of Arlington High School, is a four-year varsity letterwinner and two-year captain. With her 2004 season still on its way, she has been named to the All-Section AA Class First Team and All-Area First Team for three-straight years. Sefcik has also played for three years with the 2003 New York State Cup Champion Albertson Elite club team and has been a six-year member of the Eastern N.Y. Olympic Development Program.

"Kara is a very consistent and complete player," said Karbowski. "She is always around the ball and has a great sense for the game. With her great work ethic and ability to get her teammates involved, Kara will be in a good position to make an immediate impact at Siena."

A midfielder/defender from Notre Dame Academy, Mulligan was captain of her 2003 City Champs and Class A State Finalist team. She has also played for the Staten Island United club team for seven years and has been a three-year starter for her New York City Empire State Games club.

"Katie is a quick, skillful player who possesses a tireless work rate," commented Karbowski. "She can be equally effective as an outside midfielder or defender. Her great attitude will fit in well wit h the team."

McManus hails from Algonquin Regional High School as a League All-Star and Team MVP as a senior. The two-time varsity letterwinner captained her 2003 squad and has played for the club team FC Puma for two years.

"Katie is physically strong player, who is extremely aggressive," said Karbowski. "She has the ability to distribute the ball out of the back and from the midfield and possesses the characteristics of a solid defensive-minded midfielder."

A forward/midfielder from Exeter High School, Blaisdell is a three-year varsity starter and senior year captain. She is a three-time Class L All-State selection who has played four years for the club team of Seacoast United.

"Susie is a versatile player with good speed," said Karbowski. "She has a good feel for the game as both a possession player and attacking player and will provide Siena with an additional presence offensively."

Sefcik, Mulligan, McManus and Blaisdell will join Amy Loughridge (Guilderland, N.Y.), Tara Ross (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Katie Goodwin (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Madeline Rickard (Otisville, N.Y.), who have already committed to the Siena program.
