Dayton Beach, Fl- Junior Bryan Bigley was Siena's low scorer over the weekend as the Saints opened their 2006 golf season at the Bethune -Cookman Spring Invitational finishing 2nd over 18-holes at Indigo Lakes Country Club. The nine teams competed in high winds of 35 mph and rain for the title.
Bigley posted 18-hole scores of 75 and 76 for a two-day total of 151 to finish in 3rd place. Siena finished in 2nd place in the team standings with scores of 305 and 316 for a 627 total. Host Bethune Cookman claimed the title by score of 599 and Stetson University posted 627 as the top finishers.
Bethune's senior Rhys Lindquist from Carmarten, South Wales claimed the individual title (71-75 - 146) and sophomore teammate Stefan Strandlund from Linkoping, Sweden finished 2nd (70-78 - 148).
Other Siena competitors were juniors Allen Parker (74-81-- 155), Alex Riggo (80-76 - 156) and Dennis Gosier (76-87 - 163) and senior Robby Bigley (82-83 -- 165).
"Although I am happy with the teams second place finish in this competitive tournament, we still have a lot of work to do before the MAAC tournament", said head coach Tom Wronowski.
The Saints are off until March 17 when they travel south to Pinehurst, N.C. to play in MAAC rival Iona College Invitational.
