McNeese State pitcher Sam English pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run as the Cowboys earned a 6-4 victory over Siena to extend their winning streak to four games. Scott King and Chris Klepps each had two hits for the Saints.
English pitched six strong innings, striking out seven batters while walking none to elevate his record to 2-1.
McNeese hitters were able to get to Siena starter Thomas Hopkins early, plating three runs in the bottom half of the first inning on an RBI double by Joe Hulett and RBI singles by Charlie Kingrey and Nick Buck.
The Saints would come back to tie the game at three all in the fifth inning with unearned runs off two hits and five McNeese errors.
The Cowboys struck for two runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a Kevin Hawk balk and an RBI sacrifice by Jeramie Broussard that turned out to be the game clinching run.
Hawk was tagged with the loss, dropping him to 0-1.
Siena's run in the sixth came on an RBI single by Matt Gidaly that plated Gabe Perez
Andy Wells and Kevin Snyder pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Saints.
The third and final game of the series is scheduled to begin at 10 A.M. Sunday morning with lefthander Chris Denton on the mound for the Cowboys.
